Mr. Velveteen Weasel just wormed his way into the heart of NMDR after honing his craft as an escape artist. After making several escapes from his previous owners’, Weasel found his way to the Rio Rancho backyard of a dog lover who acquired ownership of him and then surrendered him to us so we could find his furever home. Weasel was born on 09/07/2013 with a beautiful, velvety, brown smooth coat with red tones, one blue and one brown eye, high intelligence, a sense of humor, and a loving disposition. He is a tweenie (sized between a miniature and standard) and weighs 15 lbs. Being just 2 years old, Weasel is full of curiosity and playful energy and is very teachable. He responds to “come,” “sit,” “down,” “outside,” and several other verbal commands and virtually taught himself to use the doggie door within 24 hours at his foster mom’s house. Although he knows his potty is outside, being recently neutered, he has had a few marking episodes inside. Weasel cries if he cannot sleep with his foster mom and he does not like to be contained in a small space. He is microchipped and heartworm negative, and has rabies, distemper, parvo, and Bordetella vaccines. He loves to be with humans, be petted, and lay on your lap or cuddle up next to you. Weasel gives great hugs and kisses and is a healthy, vibrant, sensitive, sweet, and studly little fella. He loves to play with toys and gets along well with other dogs but his response to cats is unknown. He travels well in a car. Weasel’s furever home will need to provide exercise, play, some additional training, and set rules, limits, and boundaries for him to ensure his physical and emotional needs are met and he matures properly. It is imperative that Weasel’s furever home have a yard and that both are secure with no chance of his finding a possible escape opportunity. And even though Weasel insists on being the star, he likes being part of a pack and will do best in a home with at least one other dog. Weasel is being fostered in NE Albuquerque and his adoption fee is $325.
