Prepare yourself to fall in love. Meet Skippy the Terrier Dachshund. You might have to squint to see the dachshund part, but it definitely is seen in the length of his body. To steal a phrase from “Oliver” Skippy has had a real hard knock life. He was found on the streets in southern New Mexico. He appears to have been hit by a car about 8 months to a year ago suffering a broken hip, broken leg and hernia. He remained on the streets for 8 months or so with these injuries, until his recent rescue.

Unfortunately the vet who cared for him when he arrived through the NM Dachshund Rescue said that due to the length of time he went without medical intervention, these injuries are not operable now. Despite these challenges he is super sweet. They estimate he is around 9 years old and he weighs around 10 pounds.  All he wants is to be around people. He will follow you, adoringly, all day long. He is a very chill dog. Loves adoring you from whatever doggie bed is near you.

Smart?  He learned how to use the doggie door to do his business in just one day. He sleeps until you are ready to get up.  He is always up for his walks. While he has only 3 functioning legs, he moves along very quickly. I have to put some pep in my step to keep up with him. He tolerates other dogs as long as they are not energetic & rambunctious and respect his space. Before he came up from down south, they reported that he was fine in a house that had cats. He ignored the cats, from their report.

Skippy has some anxiety right now when left alone. He would do best with a household where he would only be left alone for short periods (4 hours or less).  He is not fearful of people and will approach all children & adults. He loves everyone. He is a good car companion and curls up in his car bed, while I run errands. I must say, when out with Skippy, most people who pass him, ohh and ahh over him as he is that sweet & cute! Skippy is looking for a person or family that has a big heart and would love to make sure his hard knock life turns into golden years.  He is being fostered in Albuquerque and his adoption fee is $150.00
