Penny – ADOPTED!!

Theoretically, a tweenie, but right now quite obese at 29 pounds (but down from 34 pounds!), and she should be around 18 pounds.  Red dapple face and ears, with a solid red body, spayed female, 10 years old.  Very affectionate, well-mannered, social with other dogs and people, not sure about kids as she was never around them.  Shots are current, health is good, heart-worm negative, but her teeth need some work.

She was one of what NMDR refers to as the Los Lunas 11, coming out of a loving, but confined environment.  Under the fat is a great dog. She has gotten so much more active in the few weeks she has been in foster care, braving the snow to walk around and do dog things. She knows about the dog door, and will go over and sit in front of it, waiting for someone to open it for her, and then she goes out to do her business.  If her person misses that cue, however, there might be an accident. Same with first thing in the morning, last thing at night, and any time after a nap. Barks/whines to come back in. As she loses weight and is better able to maneuver herself, she will be able to use the dog-door on her own—she wants to go outside.

Her forever home needs to have strict control of her food, absolutely no people food, dry dog food only, and maybe a couple of healthy treats to keep her spirits up. Slow feeder dog bowls work great, and allow dogs to have some fun when they eat their restricted diets. She begs and yips when people are eating so she was obviously fed lots of inappropriate food in her previous life, and got no exercise. She can be your walking companion for those New Years’ resolutions!

Being fostered in southern Colorado, hence the snow. Penny loves to travel and is very good in the car, will whine if she needs to stop and get out. Adoption fee $200.
