Little Bear is an 18-month-old red/blonde long-coated Dachshund mix, male, neutered, up to date on all vaccinations, and heartworm-negative. He weighs 24 lb.

 

Little Bear is very affectionate and quite eager to please, but he’s rather serious and reserved and lacks a bit of confidence about whether people love him and will treat him well. I have been working to help him with that, but since he is currently living with his brother, Jake, who is dominant and effusive, Little Bear tends to occupy the background. It will help him immensely to be separated from Jake and be the total focus of his people’s attention. His basic disposition is that of an energetic, active, playful, fun-loving dog who just needs more confidence. He adores all people and wants nothing more than to please you and have your complete attention and approval. At this time, Bear is a tabula rasa with no formal training, but he is a very intelligent, highly responsive, eager-to-please dog, so he should be very quick to learn and easy to train. 

 

Little Bear is good with other dogs and is said to be good with children. 

 

Bear is said to be cat-friendly, but he does bark at and chase my cats out of the yard, so if he is expected to live with cats he will need training to that effect. Note also that he was surrendered by his rural owner because he and his comrades killed some chickens – so, he apparently has a prey drive. He has not been food aggressive or toy aggressive, and in my experience he has no vices other than killing chickens.
