Hi, my name is Peanut! I’m an adorable, neutered, microchipped, smooth-haired, red dachshund.  I moved to Albuquerque from Reno, NV in August.  My human sister found me abandoned in the street eating a lizard.  She saved me and took me to the shelter, but my owners never came for me.  My foster parents visited me in Reno, adopted me, and brought me home to Albuquerque.  I heard them say something about me looking like I have been through a lot and they want better for me.  Maybe it’s my ear – it’s shorter than the other, looks like it’s been cut.  At first, I didn’t like my foster mom touching my ears, but I trust her now and I let her rub them all the time.  I went to the vet and had a full physical exam, all my shots and my teeth cleaned.  Doc said I have a small heart murmur, but nothing to be too concerned about now – maybe when I get older.  Doc said he thinks I’m about 8 – 9 years old and said I need to gain weight because I only weigh 8 lbs.  My foster parents have taken that VERY seriously.  My mom tricks me by putting chicken broth in my food and I eat every drop.  I love to play soccer with mini tennis balls and play with squeaky toys.  I can squeak all day long if you let me!  I LOVE to snuggle and be loved.  I really need someone who can be with me and love me all day and night long.  Oh, how I love humans!!!  I haven’t met any kids so I can’t tell you if I like them or not.  My foster parents work long hours and it’s hard for them to give me the attention I need.  My foster mom is taking me to the doctor to check my eyes.  She thinks I might have trouble seeing at night or in dark areas.  Not a big deal – just means I need help going outside when it’s dark.  I know how to use the doggie door, but sometimes I forget and potty inside.  If someone is there to remind me, I don’t have accidents in the house.  Oh, I have the comfiest cave bed too.  I could sleep there forever and ever.  I can’t jump on the furniture and it’s just because I’m too little.  My foster parents have two older doxies.  We get along great and all sleep together.  They are much bigger than me, but I still try to beat them in races.  I am the perfect pet for someone is home lots so we can just be together and be happy for the rest of my life. I’m being fostered in Albuquerque and my adoption fee is $275.
