Hi, there. My name is Buttercup, and I’ve never had a more fortunate day in my life than the one during which New Mexico Dachshund Rescue found me. I’m not a dachshund, although I’m kind of long and low. My foster mom thinks I must be part spaniel and maybe there’s some wiener-dog in me somewhere. I’m about seven years old, have the softest fur on the face of the earth, and if NMDR hadn’t rescued me, I’d have died in the near future. My foster mom spotted a hard growth in my abdomen, so she took me to the vet, they took a blood sample, discovered all my organ functions were normal, so they performed exploratory surgery on me. What they found on their exploration was a half-pound bladder stone! I only weigh twelve pounds and I’m only eleven inches tall from my shoulders to the ground, and that stone had pushed the rest of my internal organs all out of whack. Since that horrid stone has been removed, I’m a new dog, and my innards are now normal. I’m happy and playful, love my humans and my canine companions, love to walk on a leash, and I’d make anyone a practically perfect pet. As soon as my next vet visit, which will be August 13, I’ll be ready for adoption. I definitely enjoy cuddling. I’m also very agile and can climb and jump, so you have to be careful you don’t inadvertently let me bolt, because I will. Ah, and I also love to unstuff stuffies.

I do have some special needs owing to the urinary tract problems. I will need to eat special food for the rest of my life, and will need to have my urine tested from time to time to make sure I don’t have any more bladder stones growing in me. The special food is almost guaranteed to take care of any problems of that nature. NMDR will explain the precise nature of the food I have to eat. My adoption fee is $150. My kibble costs about $28.00 for a 6.6-pound bag, and my canned food runs about two cans for $5.00. But I don’t eat much, so my food lasts a long time. Besides that, I’m a love bug and worth every penny!
