Zoey I’ve been Adopted!!

Warning: Beware of this dog, she will steal your heart. Okay, I warned you… read on at your own risk.  Zoey is part of a very large family of dachshunds and dachshund mixes who all luckily ended up with the NM Dachshund Rescue. She is a healthy, active, 10 pound black and tan short haired miniature/tweenie dachshund mix. At her wellness check up, the vet said Zoey was around 2 or 3 years old and she might have miniature pincher or chihuahua in her as well. I always say, why get just one breed of dog, when you can get two dogs in one.

Leaving her home and brothers and sisters was definitely a challenge for Zoey, as it would be for anyone. She was welcomed into my home at the beginning of December. Zoey kept her distance from us for a few days before deciding she was safe in her foster home. After that initial 2 or 3 days, Zoey has been following me around the house and warming my lap ever since. She is a big snuggle bug and will curl up in your lap every chance she gets. She does well with other dogs and loves to run with them and play with toys.

Zoey has not had much experience with the world out there. She is slow to warm up to people, but given a chance to approach on her own terms, she will warm up. She is house trained and uses the doggie door on her own, now being able to walk on a leash and is enjoying her walks She appears to learn quickly and recognizes some basic commands. Zoey does not resource guard, although she does like to get her foster sister terrier to chase her, by snatching her toys. She has not been around children but I bet she would do well, if given the chance to slowly warm up, as she would need with anyone.  She has been left alone for up to four hours with free range of the house & doggie door.  She did well and was found snoozing when I returned home.

Zoey is hoping for a furrever home and will definitely win your heart with her mad snuggling skills. She has been spayed, heartworm negative, microchipped and current on all her shots. She is being fostered in Silver City and her adoption fee is $425
