Oreo – ADOPTED!!!

Oreo (so named because of her black and white fur) has been through a lot.  We’d love to find this beautiful girl a loving, quiet home in which to live out her golden years.  Could you be the special adopter that gives this poor girl the love and peace she so deserves?

Oreo is a piebald longhair dachshund approximately 10-12 years old who was found as a stray in Valencia County. She has what we all presumed to be a large tumor on her right side and underside.  Upon examination and x-rays, however, it turned out to be a large hernia.  We consulted with a surgeon about surgery to repair the hernia, and his conclusion was that she’s better off living with the hernia (apparently large ones cause less problems than smaller ones, and she’s had it for a long time and is used to it) than undergoing the major surgery necessary to repair it.

During the examination, Oreo displayed some additional medical issues – she had a sneezing attack and then a massive nose bleed.  The surgeon said the heavy nose bleed could indicate that she has hypertension, high blood pressure or another underlying issue, and recommended against putting her under anesthesia.

Oreo also has cataracts developing in both eyes.  She would benefit from having her teeth cleaned but because of the medical issues displayed, shouldn’t be put under for dental work.

Despite these issues, Oreo is happy, eats well, follows the people she is staying with  around, and enjoys her outdoor visits.  She loves her thick bed (which she got after she seemed uncomfortable lying on a thinner one).

We don’t know how she would be with other dogs or with cats.  Based on what the shelter indicated, we believe she may not have been spayed.

In light of Oreo’s special needs, her adoption fee is only $1.  She is currently resides in Bosque Farms.  If you are the special angel who can provide this girl with the love she deserves after such a hard life, please submit an adoption application.
