Rumi – ADOPTED!!

Hello, my name is Rumi and I like people better than dogs. I am black and tan and came from the shelter in Los Lunas where they were told I am a long haired dachshund mix. I had a very messy haircut, it must have been one of those COVID haircuts, which has been evened and hopefully will look beautiful soon. I am two years old and considered “mini”. I weigh 11lbs. Not only am I neutered, micro chipped, heartworm negative, I even had a flu and COVID immunization in addition to all the regular vaccinations. I am house trained and have learned to use a doggie door. I love to snuggle with my foster mom and most new people.

Rumi would be OK with one other dog, but it should be a confident and calm dog to help teach him appropriate behavior. At his new home adoptees should consider quickly establishing boundaries from the beginning as he tends to think he is the “boss” and did bark excessively until we learned tools to manage that. This is especially important during the acclimation period. He is affectionate with adults and does not become alarmed with handling but we would emphasize safety for both the small dog and children. Older children (8+) may be more suitable as they can take instructions from adults more than younger children can, and of course that varies by child. It is possible he may develop extreme attachment to a primary caregiver due to his insecurity so setting boundaries from the beginning (Say please) will help decrease the chances of that happening. Rumi becomes distressed when put in situations with many dogs and we strongly suggest he does not go to a dog park as this engages his arousal and causes him to make poor choices.

I am available now and being fostered in Albuquerque. My adoption fee is $395.
