Meet Buddy. He is one of 10 doxies surrendered to NMDR by the same owner and is likely between 5-7 years old. Buddy is a black and tan smooth tweenie male – meaning he weighs 15 lbs. He is microchipped, heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, and was recently neutered. Buddy must go to a furever home that has other dogs. He is truly a pack member. His reaction to cats is unknown and he has exhibited some fear aggression to big dogs so he would likely do best with a pack of smaller dogs.
Buddy is house trained and uses a doggie door. He has submission piddle issues at times, but this will likely subside once he feels secure with his furever home surroundings and humans. He has exhibited occasions of fecal incontinence where excrement is discharged as he is walking or lying down. Buddy has some minor knee issues and should not be in a home with stairs. He should use doggie steps or ramps to access furniture, and he should be given a daily glucosamine supplement.He eats a total of between ¾ – 1 cup dry kibble daily and enjoys both breakfast and dinner meal times. Buddy is learning basic training commands, how to walk on a leash, and both doggie and human meal etiquette. He is not food aggressive; however, he does not have boundaries with food and will eat the food of the other dogs in the home if he is still hungry and/or not monitored.Buddy is very intelligent and learns fast. He is learning to come when called. He is gentle, playful, cuddly, and in traditional doxie fashion, he loves to burrow under blankets. He likes to give and receive hugs, sometimes lie in a lap, and he especially enjoys being next to his foster mom with his head on her leg or curled up. Buddy currently sleeps in bed with his foster mom and other doxies. If an alternative sleeping situation is desired by his furever humans, he will learn quickly what the rules are with some consistency. Buddy is being fostered in Albuquerque and foster mom projects he will be available for adoption after his dental on 01/30/23. His adoption fee is $425
